Although Maximus and Kuna are two separate brands, they are both produced by the same company and with the same attention to quality. When comparing a product like the Kuna Maximus Floodlight with the Ring Floodlight, however, we feel that the Ring Floodlight still manages to come out ahead.
Despite being two different products from two different brands, both of these cameras manage to provide an excellent solution for outdoor monitoring. Ring does have a few features that Kuna is lacking, but what really sets the brand apart is the excellent customer support that Kuna very much lacks.

Difference #1: Video Quality – The first notable difference worth discussing when comparing the Maximus vs. Ring is the video quality that these cameras bring to the table. Both cameras record in 1080p HD for a crisp and detailed picture. However, the Ring Floodlight records at 30 FPS while the Kuna Maximus only records at 15 FPS.
This essentially means that you’re going to see a much smoother recording with the Ring camera — especially when recording quick movements.
Both cameras stream with H.264 formatting, which compresses the footage in order to reduce the strain on your network.
Difference #2: Field of View – Field of view is another important metric to consider, especially for outdoor cameras, as it has a direct effect on the amount of area these cameras can cover. The Kuna Maximus Floodlight has a 155° diagonal field of view, while the Ring Floodlight is slightly more impressive at 160°.
Difference #3: Motion Detection – Both the Kuna Maximus and Ring Floodlight Cam offer motion detection with motion zones and person detection features for more accurate notifications and fewer false alarms. The main difference between the two models is that the Ring offers these features for free, while you’ll need a subscription to access the capabilities with the Maximus Floodlight.
The Kuna AI is built to be able to tell people apart from cars, which is really important for home security. However, the Ring’s motion detection uses a camera to detect motion rather than a sensor which makes the incidence of false alarms far less likely.
For the Ring Floodlight Cam specifically, this camera detection is integrated with a PIR sensor that will automatically trigger the lights when it notices activity. — allowing the lens to then determine whether the activity is actually human.
Simply put, the Ring’s advanced motion detection is more advanced and has its features available free of charge, while Maximus only offers basic detection as a baseline and charges extra if you’re looking for extra security.
Difference #4: Night Vision – Both cameras can keep your home protected 24/7 with night vision, but the Kuna Maximus Floodlight uses full-color video while the Ring Floodlight records in black and white. However, full-color night vision will soon be added to the Ring as well.
While Kuna currently has the advantage in this area, Ring will pull ahead once they released their Enhanced Color Night Vision since it will give you the option to swap between black and white and color at will in order to find what works best for your front door.
Difference #5: Internet Connection – One area where the Kuna Maximus Floodlight does pull ahead is an internet connection. As a dual-band device that can use both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies, the Kuna will put less strain on your network than the Ring Floodlight that can only use 2.4GHz.

For Ring, you have access to two tiers of plans: Ring Protect Basic and Plus.

Ultimately, we think Ring plans are a little bit more attractive since they don’t lock their basic features behind a monthly fee.
Difference #7: e911 Emergency Call – In the event of an emergency, being able to access help as quickly as possible is critical. Only the Kuna Maximus Floodlight gives you the ability to dial 911 directly through the live view.
Difference #8: App Support – While both cameras support access and control through Android and iOS, the Ring Floodlight also supports Web access which may be critical for those who were hoping to manage their cameras through the computer.
Difference #9: LED Lights – With the Kuna Maximus, your LED light is built directly into the device with 2400 lumens brightness and 5000K color temperature. The Ring Floodlight is built-in but separate from the camera but is a little bit dimmer at 1800 Lumens.
Difference #10: IFTTT & Stringify – Ring supports IFTTT and Stringify — two of the most powerful smart home conditional trigger systems. These services allow you to link your smart devices together and set up your home to do things like flash the lights when motion is detected to draw attention to intruders, or even adjust the thermostat when the cameras sense someone walk through the door. Unfortunately, the Kuna Maximus Floodlight does not integrate with these services.
Difference #11: Pre-Recorded Messages & Automated Greetings – One of the cooler features of the Kuna Maximus is the ability to create pre-recorded messages that can play when motion is detected. You’ll also have a set of automated greetings to choose from if you’d rather not use your own voice.

Kuna vs. Ring Floodlight — Things in Common
Live View – Like most smart cameras, both the Kuna and Ring Floodlight offer you the ability to access an on-demand live view from wherever you happen to be. Both brands also offer the ability to record that live view as well — just keep in mind that Ring requires a subscription for that feature (starting at $3 per month).
Zoom – Always get footage that covers the details that matter most using the zoom feature available with both brands.
Two-Way Audio – In addition to being able to hear audio through the live view and recordings, you can also speak through the cameras due to the two-way audio feature. It’s a great perk for warding off package thieves before they have a chance to steal your goods.
Siren – Both cameras actually have a siren built-in, which allows them to alert your family to danger and scare off intruders in addition to their regular monitoring features. The Ring has a 110 dB siren, while the Maximus has a 115+ decibel siren that’s even louder than a motorcycle. It’s safe to say that it would be difficult to sleep through the siren with either brand!
Voice Control – While you’ll likely control a lot of the features of these cameras through the dedicated smartphone apps, both cameras also integrate quite well with voice control through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

When comparing the Kuna vs. Ring Floodlight, we do feel that Ring Floodlight has the edge for several different reasons. The main reason is the integration that Ring has with other smart devices within its product family, with the ability to easily add in a Ring Smart Video Doorbell or Ring Alarm DIY Security system for 24/7 professional monitoring.
However, it’s also important to keep in mind that Ring has very good support while many are very unhappy with Kuna’s response to their issue — their BBB rating speaks for itself. While the Kuna Maximus Floodlight itself might be competitive, the fact that the company behind it does a poor job of supporting their camera is reason enough in our book to strongly recommend the Ring Floodlight as the superior choice.
