Difference #1: Pen – Both smart notebooks definitely differ on the type of pen they use. Rocketbook Everlast uses Pilot Frixion Pens, which are inexpensive and can be bought in a wide array of colors. They work by using a type of thermal ink, which virtually disappears when heat is applied. And that can be done by rubbing the page with its rubber tip, or by even blasting a hairdryer for a few seconds on the page. You can use Frixion pens on all types of pages, and they are not just tied to smart notebooks. If you want to extend your set, you can also purchase additional Frixion markers and highlighters too.
Now, the Moleskine Smart Notebook uses a more advanced Pen+. This unique system works thanks to Ncoded paper technology. It uses a tiny camera near the nib of the pen, which allows the pen to recognize every page, different paper tablets and specific times and dates in the Smart Planner.
Meaning that each pen stroke is instantly captured and transferred to your device and apps. How cool is that?
The Pen+ is specifically designed to work on Moleskine Smart Notebook or a similar type. You can purchase ink refills when you run out.
Keep in mind that Pen+ comes with a USB cable, and it needs to be charged for at least 2 hours prior use, especially if it’s just out of the box.

Difference #2: Page to Screen Technology – This is where Moleskine differs greatly from most smart notebooks on the market.
It uses a special technology that allows you to simultaneously write in the notebook while having your written work appear on your smart device! So that means your sketches or notes can be shared in real-time as you write them! You can also choose different colors for your text to appear in.
Not only that, but you can also select the option for your written content to be transcribed, so you won’t have to type anything out. You also have the option of ticking the little mail icon on each page, which allows you to email each page as you write.
The only downside to this innovative technology is that there have been some complaints from other users that the Moleskine app isn’t transcribing their work clearly, or the strokes aren’t being properly captured on the screen. Difference #3: Erasability – This is where Rocketbook Everlast comes in. It’s most unique feature, is the fact that it can be erased as often as you please. It has an unlimited lifespan, which will end up saving money on having to buy new notebooks every time, as well as helping the environment.
When your pages are filled with content, all you need is a microfiber cloth and a few drops of water, and done! Your pages are erased and brand new. You can also use the hairdryer option too, which may feel a little odd, yet is very effective.
Unfortunately, Moleskine Smart Notebook doesn’t have the erasability function, as it’s not compatible with the Frixion Pen.

Difference #5: Page Material & Number – To some of the users, it’s important that the notebook… well, feels like a notebook!
While Rocketbook Everlast pages are made from a waterproof synthetic poly blend, giving it that plastic-ish, glossy feel. Its main downside being, that once you have erased the page with a damp cloth, you’ll need to wait for at least 15 seconds before continuing to write. Especially if you’re left-handed, as the pages can smear.
The upside is that the pages are waterproof, meaning you won’t damage your pages by your glass of water accidentally toppling over (can’t say the same for wine!).
While Moleskine Smart Notebook has a more traditional feel with its paper-like texture. It makes sense, as it’s not erasable.
