Night Vision – Same goes for night time too! You can easily check-in at any hour of the day and night, to see if your pet needs anything. A great feature for those of you who tend to work late hours or travel a lot.

Sound – Both Petcube Bites 1 and 2 offer premium two-way audio technology. So you can enjoy full-duplex sounds, with 4-microphone array and speaker bar. You can offer a word of comfort to your pet even when you’re abroad, as well as warn them off the couch too!

Treat Dispenser – You can treat your pets, even from your office! Using the in-built treat dispenser allows you to interact with your pet remotely, whether it’s to reward them for good behavior, or even to keep them from barking at the local postman. Not only that, but you can also allow your family and friends to interact with your pets too with the sharing feature.

You can easily control the amount, as well as the distance ( up to 6 ft), or even set it on autoplay to keep your pets busy when you are.

The dispenser can hold up to 1.5lbs of treats, which should ideally be spherical and with dimensions of 1 inch or less.

The dispenser itself is also easily detachable and dishwasher safe, or you can hand wash it if you prefer.

Sound/Motion Alerts – Never miss a moment with sound & motion alerts. Any triggered sounds or motions will be recorded, so you can see what your friend was up to while you weren’t home.

Subscription Plan – If you wish to amp up your cloud storage, you can do so by opting for a subscription plan to suit you.

You can choose from 3 Plans, the Free one which has no video history and only access to live view, the Optimal Plan which provides you with a 3-day video history costing $5.99 monthly, and lastly The Premium, which includes 90 days of video history, and costs $14.99 per month. If you decide to go for an annual rather than monthly plan, the cost would be considerably lower.

Such as distinguishing between dog barks, or cat meows as well as differentiating between objects and people, helping you to identify an intruder or any other suspicious activity.

Petcube Bites vs. Petcube Bites 2 — Differences

Petcube Bites

Difference #1: Field of View & Zoom – See more with Petcube Bites 2, with its impressive 160° ultra-wide-angle lens field of view, vs. 138° of Petcube Bites 1.

Having more coverage allows you to keep track of your pet better, and when paired with Petcube Bites 2 4x Digital zoom technology, you can zoom in on your pet to distinguish what he has in his mouth this time. While Petcube Bites 1 only has 3x zoom capabilities.

Difference #2: Alexa – Have Alexa help you with your pets too! While both Petcube Bites and Petcube Bites 2 are compatible with Amazon Alexa, Petcube 2 makes every day easier by having Alexa already built-in. Eliminating the need for any smart speakers, such as Echo Show or Echo Spot. Now you can order treats, play music, or even find the nearest on-call vet for your loyal companion.

You can activate your voice assistant by just pressing the button on your app, and you can say things like, “Alexa, treat my pet.” or “Alexa, order more treats for my pet”. Making your life easier, and efficient.

It’s worth mentioning that as of now, Petcube doesn’t support ESP.

ESP stands for “Echo Spatial Perception”. It’s a feature for Alexa-enabled devices, which will only activate the speaker that’s closest to you.

For example, if you already have an Echo Show or Dot, and you pair up your Petcube Bites 2 with Alexa already built-in, both the Echo smart speaker and Petcube’s Alexa will wake up once you say “Alexa”, which can be annoying. One of the easy fixes is to give speakers different names (“Amazon” and “Echo” are your other options), although it can get confusing fast.

This is why Amazon created the ESP technology, which will make sure that only the closest speaker to Alexa will reply.

Unfortunately, currently Petcube doesn’t support ESP, but hopefully, in the near future, they will enable the ESP feature like ecobee with their Alexa-enabled thermostat.

Difference #3: WiFi – While both Petcube Bites and Petcube Bites 2 supports a 2.4GHz WiFi network, Petcube Bites 2 also supports a 5GHz connection too.

Be sure to check prior installation the strength of your network to ensure that your Petcube Bites will work without any issues. And if you’re looking for a new smart home WiFi system, make sure to read our take on NETGEAR Orbi vs. AmpliFi HD.

However, currently, Petcube Bites 1 does come with more color options to choose from, such as Matte Silver, Rose Gold, Carbon Black, and Snow White. So you can find the perfect tone that compliments your personality and style.

While Petcube Bites 2 has only one color option for now which is Matte Silver.
