We also have Nest Hello, which takes security one step further by providing us with CVR, and facial recognition.

Simplisafe Video Doorbell vs. Nest Hello — Differences

Difference #1: Motion Detection & Custom Motion Zones – While both Simplisafe Video Doorbell and Nest Hello have the motion detection technology, there are some slight differences in how they operate.

Nest’s Hello motion detection feature will send you push notifications straight to your smart device when activity is detected. Plus, Nest Hello offers facial recognition which is pretty exceptional for a smart doorbell.

Simplisafe doorbell, on the other hand, is not as advanced, but it uses dual-sensors to differentiate between people or passing cars. As well as having technology that can identify the heat signature of people, as well as detecting human form. So you’ll only get alerts for things that count.

In terms of motion zones, Nest Hello smart doorbell allows you to set your own specific areas that should be closely monitored. Such as the designated area where your delivered packages are left, or where you have your car parked, you will receive notifications if any movement is detected in those spots. So for Simplisafe, you’ll need an existing doorbell (8-24VAC), door chime, and a 2.4Ghz network connection. As for the tools, you’ll probably just need a Phillips head screwdriver. You will also need a power drill if you are installing on a stone or brick wall. Make sure to double-check your Internet range at the front door prior to purchasing your smart doorbell.

When it comes to Nest Hello, it’s compatible with 16-24 VAC doorbell transformers, as well as a 2.4GHz or 5GHz connection. However, this is only available for Nest Hello doorbells, as Simplisafe is not compatible with Google Assistant or Alexa.

Difference #4: Subscription Plan – It’s worth to note that both Simplisafe Video Doorbell and Nest Hello offer subscription plans to opt for.

Nest Hello offers a set of 3 plans called, Nest Aware. This subscription service adds a lot of useful features for your smart doorbell, especially when it comes to your security. Nest Aware features a huge range of interactive technology, such as the ability to set your own custom motion zones, facial recognition which will notify you when they spot a familiar face or a complete stranger. And best of all, continuous video recording (CVR).

The Nest Aware plan is broken down into three parts, which depend on the length of video history each offers. The 5-day plan costs 5 USD monthly, the 10-day is 10 USD per month, and the 30-day costs 30 USD per month. All three plans offer a slight discount if you pay annually as well.

While Nest does at least take screenshots of any important occurrences in the free plan, such as someone at your door, those screenshots will only last 3 hours in the Cloud.

While for Simplisafe If you decide on having cloud storage, you will need to pay for a recording plan. The Cloud storage is 4.99 USD monthly for one camera or 9.99 US/month for unlimited cameras, which an added 30 days of storage. Which would be useful if you had other Simplisafe Video Doorbells/Cameras on your property.

Difference #4: Dimensions & Style – In terms of size, Simplisafe is slightly longer than Nest Hello, with its dimensions of 4.3”x 1.5”x 1.2” vs. Nest Hello 1.7” x 4.6” x 1.0”. Yet both doorbells a similarly slim/elongated shape that offers a more modern touch to any home.

When it comes to color options, Simplisafe only comes in a classic white tone, with a silver finish doorbell button. While Nest Hello comes in Black & White color, but also offers a wide selection of other skins, such as Red, Indigo, Black, Brown, etc. So you can definitely find the tone that matches your personality and home too.
