There’s differences in display, power options, smart home integration, and more. So, let’s go over the main differences and try to give you a sense of which model is right for you!

Nest vs. Nest E Thermostat

As of September, Nest has released a brand new thermostat: the Nest E. And with its release have come a lot of questions, mainly, “What’s the difference between the Nest and Nest E?” To keep it short, the main differences are that the Nest E has a lighter price tag, a few less features/connectivity, a little less choice in cosmetics, and is a little smaller in comparison to the Nest Learning Thermostat. So, you could probably leave the article now if you just wanted to be someone in the know. However, if you’re looking to decide which one to get, we’d suggest reading about the differences below.

Sansaire vs. Anova Sous Vide

The sous vide cooking method is one of ease and perfection. If you’re going to make perfect food, you’ll want to invest in a machine that is perfect for your needs. Two top-tier sous vide cookers are the Anova Precision Cooker (Bluetooth + Wifi) and the Sansaire Sous Vide Machine. Both machines offer a wide range of helpful features for sous vide cooking. And although they were both created to accomplish the same cooking goals, there are many differences between the two. Let’s look at what’s different between the Anova vs. Sansaire to help you decide which of the two better suits your needs.

Lutron Caseta vs. Maestro Wireless

Lutron was one of the first companies to offer smart home lighting. Besides standard dimmers and switches, Lutron has two wireless collections for smart homes — Caseta Wireless and Maestro Wireless. Products from both collections use Lutron Clear Connect technology to provide comfortable remote control of dimmers and switches. And while the two collections are very similar, there are some major differences between them. We’ve compared the differences of Lutron Caseta vs. Maestro Wireless to help you choose the right one for your home.

LIFX Z vs. Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus

Finding the right lighting for your home can be tough task. There are so many spaces where traditional light just doesn’t quite fit. You want something more than functional, and at the right price. Lightstrips are an option away from traditional lamps in the corner of a room or bulbs hanging from the ceiling. And they can provide (offer?) excellent light in areas most can’t even imagine, with added features that only smart lighting can provide.

With so many smart lights to choose from, this article is going to help you to compare and contrast the features of two lightstrips: the Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus vs. LIFX Z. We’ll take a look at the features and differences to help guide you on the better choice for your home.

Both products are fantastic for under cabinets, television stands, computer desks, and basically anywhere your imagination says, “Yeah, lighting there would be a huge plus.” After going over the differences, we’ve put together a table that will show the products and their features side-by-side, followed by a sort of wrap up. So, with that all said, let’s look at both the Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus and the LIFX Z.

Philips Hue vs. LIFX

Lighting has taken a turn for an even brighter and more illuminating future. The Philips Hue White and Color Ambience A19 (3rd Generation) and LIFX A19 Color LED Smart Bulb are more than your typical light bulbs.

When paired with smart home technology, they become well-orchestrated light shows. There is no technical work involved on your part to achieve this, though. Pair the lights to your smartphone and smart home devices, then watch them come alive during video games, movies, parties, and more. You can control them from wherever you are with your smartphones and devices, as well. Sync the lights with your alarms to create a morning light show, or set them to a particular hue or color to create a relaxing ambiance and encourage general well-being. The possibilities to transform your home and the way you utilize light are endless with smart lighting.

How will you know which smart light bulb to choose for your home? This is all dependent upon your budget, hardware, and what other smart home accessories you have already invested in. The following in-depth comparison of the popular Philips Hue Gen 3 and LIFX A19 will help you to decide which smart light bulb works best for your needs.

Philips Hue Lightstrip vs. Plus

Offering tons of different features, Philips Hue lightstrips are wonderful examples of what smart home lighting can do for your home — and at a fair price. The only difficulty is trying to choose which lighting suits you best. This article is going to compare and contrast the differences between the Philips Hue Lightstrip vs. Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus.

But first, let’s mention the features that you can look forward to with both the Philips Hue Lightstrip and Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus. Both lightstrips offer smart control, away-from-home control, light schedules, comfort dimming, being able to choose from millions of colors, and syncing with music and movies. All of these give you way more functionality than traditional lightstrips. And with that said, what about the differences between the two?

Honeywell Lyric T5 vs. T6 Pro

Honeywell has been providing thermostat solutions for residential and commercial applications for over 100 years. Two of its latest releases, the Lyric T5 and Lyric T6 Pro, are incredibly similar. They’re so alike that it’s nearly impossible to find anything online about the differences between the two. So, we did some research and have put together all the differences we could find between the Lyric T5 vs. Lyric T6 Pro thermostats.

Wink vs. SmartThings

Choosing between Wink vs. SmartThings is like choosing between iOS and Android — they’re both great and offer a lot of smart features. But, there are a few minor differences between the two that we think are worth being mentioned.

Ecobee3 vs. Ecobee4 vs. Nest

As of May 2017, Ecobee has moved on from the ecobee3 thermostat, and has released the all-new ecobee4 thermostat. And now that Nest has become a household name, we felt the need to compare these three smart thermostats to find out the differences between them. So, let’s compare ecobee3 vs. ecobee4 vs. Nest to help you choose the right smart thermostat for your smart home.

ilumi vs. Hue

The Internet of Things offers a great variety of smart home lighting solutions. Whether it’s a smart bulb or a smart dimmer, the first time you get to enjoy the fascinating experience of controlling the lights at your home from your smartphone, you know you’ll never go back to a normal lighting setup. But with such a great variety of products and features, it might be a bit hard to choose the right lighting solution for you. So in this guide, we’ll compare ilumi vs. Hue to help you pick the better choice for your home.

Wink vs. Hue

If you’re like most homeowners, once you start upgrading your home to include smart home devices, it’s incredibly hard to stop. The idea of complete remote control over your home is fascinating. And smart home lighting is one of the easiest ways to start with smart home automation. Both Philips Hue and Wink offer great features when it comes to lighting, and most likely you’ll end up getting both of them. But for now, let us guide you into smart home automation by helping you choose between Wink vs. Hue.

Belkin WeMo vs. Philips Hue

One of the best ways to start with smart home automation is by setting up smart lighting. You can find a great range of smart lighting solutions on the market from Lutron, WeMo, Philips, GE Link, LIFX, etc. Some of them are more popular and thus are more expensive than others. In this comparison, we’ll take a look at the differences between WeMo vs. Hue by Philips to determine the better smart lighting solution of the two.

Osram Lightify vs. Philips Hue

When someone talks about smart home lighting, the first thing that usually comes to mind is Philips Hue. Yet, Philips Hue is far from being the only option on the market. The Internet of Things offers us a great variety of smart home lighting solutions, like: Lutron dimmers, GE Link, LIFX, Lightify bulbs, and way more we cannot list. And even though Philips Hue is reputable and very well-known, in some cases it’s better to choose other brands of light bulbs over them. So, today we’ll compare Osram Lightify vs. Hue by Philips to help you make the right choice.

Insteon vs. Wink

Every year that passes, more smart home devices get released. And it’s incredibly important to have a great hub that lets you easily control them all. So, when it comes to choosing between Insteon vs. Wink, for us the choice is obvious. And to make it easier for you, let’s guide you through the differences between these two smart home hubs.

To begin with, let us clarify that as of now Insteon offers 3 types of hubs: original Insteon 2242, Insteon Pro hub 2243, and the new Insteon hub 2245. The original one and the new one are very similar, and even though the original Insteon hub is officially discontinued, you can still buy it from Amazon. To learn more about the differences between the old and new Insteon hub, please refer to this article: Insteon 2245 vs. 2242 — What’s the Difference?

And then there’s a Pro version 2243. The Pro hub is very different from the original and the new one. The Insteon Pro hub is designed to be used specifically for Homekit devices. You can still control a few Insteon devices, but you’ll need to sacrifice Insteon cameras, motion and leak sensors in favor of Homekit. For a comparison with the Wink hub, we’ll take the most complete and absolute version of the Insteon hubs — the new Insteon hub 2245.

Wink hub also has two versions which are the Wink hub and Wink hub 2. As it usually happens, the newer version has better features and aspects, plus it’s been around for a while already. So, for our comparison with Insteon, we’ll take Wink hub 2. And if you’re interested in reading the differences between the two Wink hubs in detail, feel free to check out our Wink Hub comparison article: Wink Hub vs. Wink Hub 2: What’s the difference?.

Insteon 2245 vs. 2242

If you’re choosing between the Insteon 2245 vs. 2242, or are looking to upgrade your Insteon 2242 to the upgraded 2245 version, then you’ve come to the right place.

With the Insteon hub, you can simply control your smart home devices from any smartphone or tablet, anywhere in the world. Both the Insteon 2245 and 2242 allow for control of Insteon light bulbs, outlets, wall switches, and thermostats. Whether you’re at home or away, you always have access to your home. And in case something goes wrong, you’re the first one to know thanks to instant email or push notification alerts. The alerts can be triggered via water leak, door and window, motion, and smoke sensors while you’re away from home.

Both hubs have almost identical features when it comes to Insteon device control, and yet there’re some technical differences between them:

Insteon Hub vs. Pro

As with any technology, there’s a lot of excitement when an upgrade comes out for an existing version. And with the Insteon Hub Pro, there was a lot of hype. Unfortunately, the Insteon hub pro version didn’t quite meet peoples’ expectations.

No products found.

Now, in a comparison between most standard hubs vs. their pro versions, usually the pro version has a few new features and a hardware redesign that make it stand out from the standard one. But, the Insteon hub pro is an exception. We’ve compared the Insteon hub vs. pro purposefully to warn you about the limited features of a pro version.

Insteon vs. Lutron

Both Insteon and Lutron are veterans in home automation scene. Insteon emerged from a home automation company that was created in 1992. And the Lutron company comes from the late 1950s, when its founder invented the dimmer. The fact that these companies have been successfully around for that long means you probably can trust them both when it comes to quality. And yet, when it comes to our comparison and choosing between Insteon vs. Lutron — we’d go with Lutron.

Before we get to all the differences between the two, let’s briefly look at all four of the Lutron and Insteon hubs. Each brand of hub has a “standard” version and a pro version. In this article, we’re going to compare the pro versions of each hub — the Lutron Smart Bridge Pro and Insteon Hub Pro. And, if you’re looking for a more detailed review on the “standard” vs pro versions, feel free to check out Lutron Smart Bridge vs. Smart Bridge Pro and Insteon Hub vs. Pro — What’s the Difference?.

Philips Hue vs. Lux

When looking at Philips Hue vs. Lux, there are only a few minor differences. But before we talk about the differences, we need to look at where each of these products came so you can get an idea of how they’re related.

Philips Hue came about 4 years ago, in October of 2012, when it was first introduced to the market. Since that time, a new line of lights has been added along with new hubs. All generations of the Philips Hue family are based on ZigBee LightLink, which is a low-power, safe, and reliable technology that is widely used to control smart home appliances.

Since its first release, Philips Hue has been adding new features and improvements to the system to help make the smart lights even more useful. Philips Hue is widely used for smart homes. And one of the reasons for this is that all Philips Hue products use ZigBee protocol — This means that you can easily integrate Philips Hue with other ZigBee-based appliances for a wider range of home automation.

GE Link Hub vs. Wink Hub

GE Link Hub vs. Wink Hub — What’s the History?

Before we even get into comparing GE Link Hub vs. Wink Hub (which you’ll find below), we need to talk a little bit about the companies themselves.

Both GE Link Hub and Wink Hub allow you control your smart home appliances, and both hubs come from the same company, Quirky — Except that Wink is a spin-off from invention incubator Quirky. According to a Quirky report, by 2015 there were Wink products in 300,000 homes, and the business was growing until April 2015, when Wink experienced a security problem.

Now, the problem caused a lot of Wink hubs to go offline or break. This incident forced the company to issue a recall. And already by November 2015, the Quirky company went through bankruptcy proceedings due to financial difficulties. Wink was sold for $15 million to Flextronics (now called Flex). It wasn’t surprising since Flex was Wink’s primary supplier of hardware and firmware. As of now, Wink continues to successfully operate as an independent subsidiary of Flex.

Wink Hub vs. Wink Hub 2

So, what is the difference between the Wink Hub vs. Wink Hub 2? Both hubs are great at connecting all your smart home appliances together in one app. But there are a number of differences that set the newer model ahead of the older one.

Now, when we first saw the Wink Hub 2, our first impression was that it just looked sleeker and slimmer. But there’s more to it than that; so let’s go over whether or not the upgrade is worth the price!

Dropcam vs. Nest Cam vs. Dropcam Pro

Dropcam vs. Nest Cam vs. Dropcam Pro: how big is the difference among the three cameras? At a glance, it looks like there’s virtually no difference except for the style and price. Since Nest bought Dropcam, these three cameras run on the same app, making them have a lot in common. You can still use the Dropcam app, however Nest insistently recommends you switching to the Nest app.

Now, for a little backstory on the two companies; for anyone who doesn’t know, Dropcam sold their company to Nest, and the Dropcam CEO really regrets doing this. Why? Well, Dropcam was a great competitor, probably the strongest competitor to Nest and the company had the right mindset and product to succeed. Anyway, now that Dropcam is owned by Nest, we can only look at the difference in products now, because soon it’ll probably only be Nest branded cameras. So let’s look at the difference between the Dropcam, Nest Cam, and Dropcam Pro!

Ecobee3 vs. Ecobee3 Lite

Note: As of March 2017, ecobee updated the ecobee3 lite to work with room sensors, leaving very few differences between the ecobee3 and the ecobee3 lite. Yet, there are a few key features that separate them. Basically, the ecobee3 lite is just a lighter version of ecobee3; it supports almost all the features the ecobee3 does and costs a little bit less than ecobee3. The two versions of the smart thermostat are nearly identical, so let’s go over the features that separate the ecobee3 lite vs. ecobee3.

SmartThings vs. Insteon

If you’re stuck choosing between SmartThings vs. Insteon, our guide will go over the differences between the two and hopefully help you make the choice that’s right for you.

As home automation becomes more popular, there are more and more companies offering smart home products. The competition is unreal and, as a result, a lot of customers are getting lost in the choices. And because of the rapid growth of technology, some companies just can’t compete anymore and have to step out of race: Revolv is a perfect example. The hub didn’t look good to begin with, but the company had thousands of customers who were pretty unhappy to learn that as of May 15th 2016, the Revolv Hub would no longer be functional — and after years of use!

So, once you’ve started looking into home automation, it seems like the most important thing to do would be to analyze the company’s position. But, when we talk about SmartThings vs. Insteon, the two companies have been on a market for more than 10 years and seem pretty steady. However, as is the problem in this new smart home market, you never know when the next giant company might just go under and leave customers with useless devices.

But, let’s talk about positive things, like the differences between two great devices!

Pressure Cooker vs. Slow Cooker

Are you choosing between a pressure cooker vs. slow cooker? Then this guide is for you. The two appliances look very similar, however, when it comes to their functionality — they’re two totally different deals. And, this is why:

Insteon vs. WeMo

As smart home automation becomes more popular, more companies integrate smart home solutions. Nowadays, it’s easy to control your home remotely from your smartphone. But as it becomes more popular, it gets harder to choose between home automation systems.

Overall, it all comes to compatibility issues and number of options. Before buying a smart home automation system for your home, make sure it’s compatible with all your smart home appliances. So, as a result, you can control everything from one app, instead of downloading apps for each device separately.

Insteon vs. Iris

Please Note: As of March 31st, 2019, Lowe’s is shutting down their Iris smart home platform. More information here.

So, there’s a lot of smart home systems, and it might be a bit difficult to choose the right one for your home. Today we’ll compare two systems and discuss what each has going for it. Insteon has been selling smart home appliances since 2012 and has really made a mark on the market. Whereas Iris, while owned by Lowe’s, is a younger smart home brand that has already built a trusted reputation with its customers.

The Iris smart home automation system is the only smart home platform created by a home retailer (Lowe’s). The Lowe’s company has nearly 70 years of experience when it comes to home improvements. With all the knowledge gained over the past 70 years, Lowe’s offers a great smart home solution — Iris smart home automation platform.
