In addition to its brand new design, compared to version 1, it also offers increased brightness, while at the same time reducing its standby consumption. All coming at a reasonable price. While HomeKit support is still not available, it’s expected to be available in the coming months.

Xiaomi Yeelight v2 vs. v1 — Differences
Difference #1: Brightness – Fill your room with light! As both bulbs offer multiple colors and adjustable brightness. Xiaomi Yeelight v2 offers an even brighter bulb with 10 watts and 800 lumens, compared to the first generation’s 9 watts and 600 lumens, that’s a 33% increase in brightness allowing you to lighten up your rooms even more.
Difference #2: Hue Control on White Light Bulbs – This is perhaps the biggest difference when comparing the Yeelight v2 vs. v1. With the Yeelight v2 white light bulbs, you can control the hue of the white light from 6500K to 2700K.
You have the power to set the right ambiance for any moment. A cooler white is great for feeling more invigorated and motivated to work, while warmer tones can set the right atmosphere for a romantic date night or when curling up with a good book. You are in control of the ambiance that you want to set.
Unfortunately, the Yeelight v1 white light bulbs don’t offer hue control.
Difference #3: Apple HomeKit – This is perhaps the biggest difference when comparing Yeelight vs. Yeelight 2. Integration with Apple HomeKit allows all iOS customers an easier and secure way to control lights using Apple devices. While Xiaomi Yeelight doesn’t support that function yet, HomeKit support is expected to be available in the coming months for the Yeelight v2 light bulbs.
Difference #4: Design – When looking at the Yeelight 1st generation vs. 2nd side by side they do differ in color and shape. In terms of the design, Xiaomi Yeelight v2 offers a white base as opposed to the silver base of the previous model. It also has a thicker form too ( 2.4 x 2.4 x 4.9 in). While the first generation differs with its 2.1 x 2.1 x 4.7 in. making the second generation cover a larger area at the top.
Difference #5: Stand-By – Stand-by refers to the power consumed by the bulb when switched off. The first generation consumes ~1W compared to ZigBee bulbs (~0.4W) like Philips Hue, and that’s a little too high if you count yearly consumption.
As opposed to V2 with its reduced standby time to 0.5W. Yeelight is focused on reducing its standby time to pass the EU star requirement. With every bulb having an internal FLASH that can be used to save settings.

With the new improvements that come with V2, there is no reason to stick with the V1.
The Xiaomi Yeelight V2 offers you an increased brightness from your existing V1 lights, plus it cuts down on energy consumption during standby. While it’s still not compatible with Apple HomeKit for the time being, hopefully, it’ll still be introduced within the next few months.
