There’s also a Max vacuum option for when you need a little extra power to get out those stubborn patches of dirt.
All in all, your N79 or N79s comes equipped with everything it needs to provide a complete clean.
- Triple-brush System – The vacuums both use a triple-brush system that allows them to effective clean both hard floors and carpets. Using a unique V-shaped main brush, the deebot will sweep, lift, and vacuum — all in a single pass. This quickly and efficiently lifts dirt and dust into the path of suction, and the benefits of this system are especially noticeable on carpet.
This system is especially good for homeowners that need to clean multiple different floor types, as it’s optimized to work on hardwoods, tiles, carpets, and more. The helix-pattern brush roll provides a more effective clean than you’d see with straight-bristle brushes, and you’ll notice a significantly higher quality when compared to low-end models.
While the N79 and N79s are certainly more affordable than some more premium vacuums, they don’t skimp on quality when it comes to the actual clean.
- Dual Side Brush – Backing up the main cleaning mechanism are dual side brushes. These two propeller brushes extend past the body of the vacuum and move mess towards the suction inlet. This feature has become standard on most smart vacuums, as it keeps the robot from leaving dust and debris behind and sweeps any dirt off the edges of your walls. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that these brushes are made from nylon and are intended to last for 3 to 6 months of regular cleanings. When it comes time to replace them, it’s as simple as pushing into place the spare pair provided when you purchase the device.
- Anti-Drop – One of the risks with a vacuum that moves of its own accord is the potential for it to drop off of ledges, but both the N79 and N79s are built with sensors that can detect ledges and keep your vacuum safe. You should be able to comfortably use either model on the second floor without worrying about it taking a fall down the stairs.
- Anti-Collision – Using an Infrared Anti-Collision Sensor, your Deebot will be able thoroughly clean rooms of any shape and size using a repetitive and advanced cleaning path. The vacuum will make multiple passes over the same area to ensure the best possible clean, and is equipped to avoid any obstacles in its path. It doesn’t have the same sort of room mapping as high-end models like the Roomba 980 so it won’t remember the layout of your room in between sessions, but it does a good job of avoiding bumping into obstacles during regular vacuuming.
On the off chance that your Deebot does crash into an object, you shouldn’t see any damage to the robot or your furniture due to the included bumper rail.
- Scheduling – Just like any smart vacuum worth its salt, the Deboot N79 and N79s feature support for time scheduling. Just set a regular time and go about your day, returning to a freshly vacuumed home time and time again.
- Battery Power – The Deebot N79 and N79s feature a 2600 mAh lithium-ion battery, which is able to run for more than 100 minutes on a full charge. This should give the vacuum more than enough time to cover a few average-sized rooms.
A lot of older smart vacuums used nickel-metal hydride or nickel-cadmium batteries, which had a lower capacity and took longer to charge. Since these two models are equipped with lithium-ion technology, however, they will return to their dock and top off their battery in under 4 hours.
The energy consumption is also quite low, drawing just 25 watts. This is a great perk since you’re likely to keep the dock plugged in at all times, and the last thing you want is for your vacuum to run up a power bill!
- No Virtual Boundaries – One of the only disadvantages of these Deebot models is that they don’t support any sort of virtual boundaries. While most Roomba models come equipped with Virtual Wall Barriers that emit an infrared beam that directs the vacuum away from prohibited areas, you’ll be left using physical barriers like walls and doors to keep your Deebot contained.
- Find Me – In most cases, you shouldn’t have an issue with your N79 or N79s getting trapped due to its efficient navigation and anti-collision features. However, there’s always the risk that it could get trapped in corners or under furniture at some point, at which point you’ll have to come to its rescue. Fortunately, that’s pretty easy due to the Find Me function that will point you directly to your robot’s location — right from within the app.

- Difference #1: Voice Control – The biggest difference when comparing the Deebot N79 vs. N79s is the fact that the latter supports Amazon Alexa voice control while the former doesn’t.
The addition of voice control truly makes the N79s one of the most flexible robot vacuums we’ve ever seen. With the option to use an infrared remote, mobile app, Amazon Alexa, or even a physical button on the device itself, you’ll never find yourself without the ability to command your robot to do exactly what you please.
For homes outfitted with an Amazon Echo device, we feel the N79s is worth the minor cost increase. Being able to start a clean or adjust settings while you’re cooking, cleaning, or even just relaxing on the couch is a convenient perk that feels really awesome. All you’ll need to do is link your smart home device to the ECOVACS App, and then give directions. Tell it when and how to start cleaning, assign areas, and schedule cleaning sessions — all using simple voice commands.
- Difference #2: Max Mode – If you frequently deal with stubborn, trapped-in dirt, you’ll get a lot of use out of the Deebot N79’s Max mode. This setting allows you to increase the suction power by 50% based on your current cleaning needs.
The Max mode is especially impressive when you consider that both models include a suction power of 1000 Pa by default. They are some of the most powerful vacuums as is, but then you can increase the power by a whopping 50%! For most cleaning sessions, you won’t need this power. When you have some particular annoying dirty patches or stains to deal with, however, you’ll be glad that the option is there.
Unfortunately, this feature is limited to the N79s and is not available on the base N79.

- Difference #3: Noise – Accompanying all that extra power is a slight increase in noise. With a noise output of 67-70dB, it may be slightly more disruptive than the 64dB of the N79.
Regardless of this difference, however, you shouldn’t be dealing with ear-splitting noise that would distract you from your normal activities. If you’re particularly sensitive to noise, you might be a little more comfortable with the N79. For most people, however, either model will suit them just fine.
- Difference #4: Dimensions – The difference in dimensions is actually pretty interesting. The Deebot N79 is 12.99 inches by 3.07 inches, and the N79s is 13.9 inches by 3.27 inches, making the base model a little bit more compact. However, the N79 is a good amount heavier at 9.48 pounds comparing to the 6.17 pounds of the S model.
What really matters when it comes to smart vacuum dimensions is the height of the model, and the difference between the two is pretty minimal. You won’t likely run into any situations where an extra .27 inches makes a difference, so this shouldn’t really be a major consideration when making your decision.
Simply put, the N79 is more compact and heavier, while the N79s is a little bigger yet lighter.

ECOVACS Deebot N79 vs. N79s — Our Thoughts
It’s pretty clear that the Deebot N79s is the better vacuum, as it is superior in a few different areas with very few drawbacks. However, in the grand scheme of things, the differences between the two models is pretty minimal.
If you’re not interested at all in voice control, you can save a bit of money with the base N79. However, considering how close these two are are in price, we see no reason not to buy the N79s for access to that capability as well as the useful Max mode that can boost suction by 50%.
If you’re looking for the absolute best value, the N79 is ready and waiting. In our opinion, however, it’s more than worth it to spend a little extra to have those cool extra perks.
